Hanukkah

Hanukkah is a celebration of religious freedom.  Back around 165 B.C.E. the Jews fought against Zeus worshiping Antiochus.  He'd brought idols into The Temple of the Jews who, of course, believe in One G-d.  (Think about how galling that must have been!)  The Jews were successful in regaining control of their Temple... for a while.  And That is the exciting story of Hanukkah.  (And then there is some bit about oil lasting for eight days...) Celebrating Hanukkah in the middle of the red and green holiday fog is refreshing, fun, and a poetic reminder that we are free to burn the Menorah candles in the window.
