FROM MARLA: I’ve always wanted to use the symbol of the eye - it’s a classic, historic and cross cultural with many ascribed powers and meanings. The larger eye is influenced by Egyptian art as well as mid-century modern design (ie George Nelson's eye clock). Creating this eye felt like making a small scale sculpture. It’s elegant but also quite powerful, a protective eye.
